Anti-Anti-Pornography, Part II
(This is a series of posts giving arguments against anti-porn groups)
Part II: Group Against Pornography
Group Against Pornography (G.A.P.) is allegedly a non profit organization from Canada. They claim that they “combat the harmful influences of pornography through the education and motivation of our communities”.
What they offer as a proof that pornography has “harmful influences”? Their arguments are based on couple of researches conducted by LA Police and Queens University, and one research without any references to it’s origin.
Here are their research results upon which they base their claims and their organization:
1. “86% of rapists admitted to regular use of pornography, 57% actually imitated porn. - Dr. Wm. Marshall, Queens University & Kingston Penitentiary Sex Offenders Program”
2. “1980-1989 study records preliminary indication of pornography in 62.2% of the extra familial child sexual abuse cases studied (23.1% child porn, 21.6% adult porn, 17.5% adult and child porn). Concluding pornography is used extensively in extrafamilial sexual victimization of children. - Sexually exploited Child (SEC) Unit, Los Angeles Police Department”
3. “Pornography was involved in the sexual abuse of 87% of female children and 77% of male children”
Obviously, those people are using rape and child abuse, which are really horrific and sick acts, to get sympathy for their cause. It’s perfectly normal for anybody reading this studies to hate pornography because it is causing pain to women and children. If, in numbered sentences above, you change the word “pornography” with “pain killers” you’ll soon start to hate pain killers. G.A.P. is in fact using other peoples misery to gain wealth. How is that, you might ask, if they are non-profit organization? Well, on their web site, buried underneath all smooth talk lies this sentence: “JOIN G.A.P.: $5.00 individual membership, $35.00 group membership”. Hey! But I thought you are not in this for money? I thought you are fighting for a just cause? But all you want is people giving you money…
One question I would like to ask them is - were there any rape or child abuse cases *before* the invention of pornography? You linked porn to rape and you are deliberately concealing real reasons why rape exists. You linked 80% of child abuse to pornography without explaining who is really to blame, while cashing in the membership bucks.
It’s easy to guess who their real inspirators are. I explained this in the first post of this series.
